The Institute of Population and Labor Economics (IPLE-CASS), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), was established in l980. Current director is Professor CAI Fang.

The Institute of Population and Labor Economics is divided into four research divisions, two editorial departments, and an administrative office in charge of research coordination, foreign exchange, graduate program, reference section, and personnel management.

Center for Human Resources Research, CASS, was set up based on Institute of Population and Labor Economics. It emphasizes studies on issues of labor migration and labor market integration.

The four research divisions are (l) Labor and Human Capital, (2) Population and Social Development, (3) Quantitative Analysis of Population and (4) International Popu1ation Comparing. Chinese Journal of Population Science, a bimonthly journal, and Almanac of China's Population, a yearly publication are internationally circulated publications by IPLE.

Chinese Journal of Population Science

Chinese Journal of Population Science is a bimonthly journal of national-level, first published by the Institute of Population Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1987.

With the guiding principles of nonexclusive of any school of thought and integration of theory with practice, the journal is aimed to reflect timely up-to-date academic achievements and policy suggestions in population and the related inter-disciplinary studies. It is an important window to see the views in the field of population studies and to serve as a valuable reference for various governmental sectors in policy-making.

The Journal has been ranked as a core periodical nationwide and enlarged as a form of 16 mo and 80 pages to adapt the changing situation in the field of population studies. The quality of the published have also further upgraded substantially together with the enlargement of space. It is thus attracting more attentions of demographic circles and public sectors concerned and is taken as one of top-level journal in the related fields.

Chinese Journal of Population Science gives priority to the publication of first-class articles, reviews and survey reports related to the studies of population theory and policy, demographic statistics, human capital and labor economics, international demographic comparison, population and environment, minority population, family planning theory and practice.
