On December 10-11, 2008, the “International Conference on Contemporary Family in Chinese Society in Transition” was held on Beijing Foreign Experts Building. Wang Lei, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CASS, attended the conference.
The conference had seven topics: societal transition and family change, theory and research methods of the family, functions of the family, marriage issues of family members, birth policies and contemporary Chinese family, demographic migration and family change, family-member relations and generation relations.
Professor Cai Fang made the opening speech. Attendants, including Tian Xueyuan, Zheng Zhenzhen, Wang Yuesheng, Li Shuzhuo, Chen Jieming, Tan Lin, etc., shared experiences of recent researches, discussed theories and practices of institutional changes, family status and harmonious society, and evaluated the importance of family in demographic, national and social development, according to Chinese situations.
