On December 14-15, 2009, the “International Conference on Economic Recovery, Employment Promotion, New Skills and Sustainable Development” was held in Beijing and co-organized by the Institute of Population and Labour Economics, CASS and Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of European Commission (DGEMPL). It was a scheduled workshop of the 2009 project “New Skills, New Occupation” by CASS and DGEMPL. The 2008 financial crisis had led to worldwide economic recession, enterprise difficulties and increasing unemployment. In such environment, it is necessary to maintain social stability and to find sustainable economic recovery by stipulating growth, promoting employment and improving social security system.
Meanwhile, the climate change and its influences on economic growth and employment are other hot topics. The human activities increase greenhouse gas, which has led to the global climate change. Leaders all over the world agree that it is a critical challenge in the near future and start to emphasize the transition to the sustainable Low-Carbon Economy. This will have direct or indirect influences on the economic structure and growth.
Thus, the regulations to the challenges of global financial crisis and clime change and to prove long-term economic growth will ensure our labour market has enough adaptability. Such labour market can alter and use new technologies and guarantee the success of structure change. The technology advancement and new jobs make it necessary to pay attentions to the employment policy on the labour market and occupational training. The above ideas are the key topics of this conference, which will help us find out new solutions to those problems.
