On August 31, 2010, the international conference on “The Chinese Labor Market in the Post-Crisis Period: Understanding Informality and Strengthening Social Protection” was held in Beijing, hosted by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and organized by Institute of Population and Labour Economics. The conference was a part of CASS Forum (2010, Economics). Over 80 experts and young scholars from US, UK, Japan, Indian, World Bank, ILO, EU, and Chinese universities and government bureaus attended the conference.
Wu Yin, Deputy President of CASS, gave the opening speech. Cai Fang, Director of Institute of Population and Labour Economics, made the keynote presentation “The New Pattern of Labour Market and Transition of Employment Policies”. Yu Faming, Director of Employment Promotion Department, MOHRSS, talked about “Changes of Labour Market and Active Employment Policies”. Richard Freeman, famous economists of Harvard University, talked about “What international experiences can China learn about institutions and policies of informal employment?”. Chang Hee-Lee, ILO experts, talked about “Voice, Equality and Sustainable Development: the Turning Point of Chinese Labour Relations”.
