The research focus of the Division is population change and population issues in social-economic development, such as fertility and future trends, population migration, ageing, and related demographic and social issues. The division carried out several nationwide surveys during late 1980s and early 1990s, such as “Population Migration Survey in 74 cities in China,” “Chinese Survey of among age 60 and above,” “Women’s Status Survey in Concurrent China,” and “Family Economics and Fertility Survey in China.” Research projects currently in progress including “Causes, Consequences, and Responses Strategies of Rapid Population Ageing in China,” “Population Mobility in China: changes and polices,” “Fertility Intention and Behavior Study,” “Social Service System for Elderly in China in the Context of Aging and Urbanization,” and “The Impact of Migration on Human Capital in China with a Gender Perspective.”
