Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Project: Labour Market Transition and Migrant Worker Employment (ZGSKY2011ZD)

The project will utilize and analyze the data of the National Bureau of Statistics’ Migrant Worker Sample Observation Survey and the three-round China’s Urban Labour Survey done by the Institute of Population and Labour Economics, CASS, through mix-using the methods of statistics, econometrics, and labour economics. The research will analyze: the amount, structure and distribution of migrant worker; the employment, income, living status and social security of migrant workers; the characteristics and trends of migration employment; wage change and labour cost of migrant workers; social security and its influences on the employment fragility and urban-rural relations. The result will mainly contribute to three areas: Chinese labour supply, labour market situation, and the way of economic development; the effects of wage change on labour cost, the market self-regulation of labour cost increase, and government interference; the employment fragility of migrant workers, and the influences of social security on migrant works’ resistance to employment shock.
